What catering costs in Tbilisi
Caterers here price per guest or per package, and the format sets the band. A coffee break for a group of 30 is published at 17 GEL a person, and per-person coffee-break menus reach 49 GEL. A lunch for 30 is 37 GEL a person, or 43 GEL with wine. Per-guest buffet menus run from 27 GEL to 90 GEL. Budget menus start at 9 GEL, but when a menu is named by its price, ask whether that is per guest.
Packages fold staff and equipment into one figure. A delivered menu of 100 pieces for 10 to 12 guests is 425 GEL. A buffet for 50 with two waiters for six hours, buffet tables, tableware and transport starts at 3,550 GEL, and full service for 100 guests starts at 5,750 GEL.
At the top end, the price covers the menu and the cooking, and staff, tableware, transport and decor are worked out per event. Outside Tbilisi, add transport and sometimes a mobile kitchen.
How to choose
Fix the guest count and the format first. A drop-off menu arrives in boxes and the driver leaves. A staffed buffet adds waiters, tables and tableware for a set number of hours. A plated dinner serves courses at the table and can carry a minimum of 40 guests.
Then check the venue. A garden, a rented house or an office floor often has no kitchen a caterer can use, so ask how hot food stays hot, and say where the power, the water and the bins are. Several caterers here rent out tables, chairs and tableware, which saves hiring a second supplier.
Notice runs from 24 hours for a buffet to 2–4 weeks for a hotel kitchen, and a month or more for a large event. Put dietary needs in the first message: vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, kosher or halal, and lenten dishes if Georgian guests are keeping a church fast.
Three things to confirm before you pay a deposit
- What the per-guest price covers. Food alone, or waiters, tables, tableware and transport as well. At the top end those are separate lines, so the per-guest figure is only part of the invoice.
- How much food, for how long. Ask for the piece count and the hours on site. Published packages for 30 guests count 165 pieces for two hours and 235 for three.
- Drinks and clear-up. Whether wine, a bar, glassware and ice are in the quote, whether the venue charges corkage on bottles it did not sell, and who takes the equipment and the rubbish away at the end.
Red flags
- A per-guest price with no menu, no piece count and no list of what it includes.
- Staff, tableware or transport left to be confirmed until after the deposit.
- A venue outside Tbilisi quoted with no transport line.
- An advance payment requested before the menu and the total are in writing.
When you do not need to pay for this
If the event is in a restaurant or a banquet hall, its own kitchen and waiters already cover it. A dinner for eight at home or an hour-long office meeting needs a bakery order or a restaurant's delivery menu, and several caterers here start at 10 or 20 guests anyway.
Pay for proper service once any of these is true. Thirty or more guests. A venue with no kitchen. Hot food served over several hours. A wedding, where a late delivery cannot be put right on the day. Guests with allergies or religious dietary rules.
